http://www.hofstra.edu/pdf/Community/slzctr/stdcsl/stdcsl_triangular.pdf

In this article, Sternberg's love triangle is explained. The articles talks about the different aspects the triangular theory of love. It explains how Sternberg based love off of three different scales, : intimacy, passion, and commitment. He explains how a relationship is less likely to fail if it had two or more of these elements. However, the article goes on to explaining that during the course of a relationship, the balance between all three will not remain equal. There will be a shift between these three aspects. Also, it explains how time alone isn't what makes for a good relationship, and partners could look to the triangle to see what pitfalls they must work on together.
